Johnstown’s ECHL Affiliate Hockey Team started in 1988. They are the only original ECHL whose name has not changed and are still in their original town. The Chiefs name came from a contest held after the movie “Slapshot” was filmed in Johnstown and the fans voted for the name “The Johnstown Chiefs” to coincide with “The Charlestown Chiefs” which is how the town and team were depicted in the movie “Slapshot”.
AAABA Began in 1944 when Glen L. Martin, an entrepreneur, gathered with representatives from across the eastern US to create an organization that promoted amateur baseball. The tournament went on for many years and in 1993, Johnstown was named the permanent home for the event.
Definitely the first of its kind in the area, All Or Nothing Wrestling currently hosts events every few weeks and features 21 unique wrestlers each with their own character and fighting style. Events are held in various locations including Westmont and Nicktown.
